2014 - | Professor II (20% position) of Centre for Earth Evolution and Dynamics (CEED) Centre of Excellence, Oslo, Norway
2013 - | Associate Professor (20% position) of Centre for Earth Evolution and Dynamics (CEED)
2009 - | Senior advisor of P-Cable 3D Seismic AS (P3S), Oslo, Norway
2007 - 2009 | Co-founder, part-time daglig leder/CEO P-Cable 3D Seismic AS
2003 - 2013 | Senior Researcher (20% position) of Physics of Geological Processes (PGP) Centre of Excellence
1999 - | Daglig leder/CEO and co-founder of Volcanic Basin Energy Research AS (VBER)
1996 - 1998 | University of Oslo, Norway Førsteamanuensis (associate professor) position at the Geophysics Group at the Department of Geology. Project leader of the industry-financed Passive Margin Research Group. My research focus was on seismic imaging of volcanic constructions and understanding of tectono-magmatic continental breakup processes, including fieldwork on central-east Greenland. Teaching responsibilities in G282 (Seismic Methods), G181 (Global Geophysics) and G383 (Geophysical Working Methods), and as Cand. Scient (three students) and Dr. Scient (one student) advisor. |
|
1993 - 1996 | University of Oslo, Norway Three year post. doc. position on the project "Seismic and thermal characterization of basins on the mid-Norway volcanic margin" funded by the Norwegian Research Council PROPETRO program. I primarily worked on integrated seismic modelling, processing and interpretation of multichannel, wide-angle and downhole seismic data in deep basin and basement formations, trying to improve understanding of the breakup process on rifted volcanic margins. Participation on Ocean Drilling Program (ODP) Leg 163 as geophysicist/logger (1995), and vertical seismic experiments on Iceland (1993). Six-month research stay with the Seismic Research Group at Flinders University of South Australia (1994). |

EDUCATION | |
1988 - 1993 | University of Oslo, Norway. Dr. Scient degree in Geology, "Rifting and continental breakup: seismic response and crustal evolution with emphasis on the Vøring volcanic margin". Interpretation of regional crustal structure from MCS, wide-angle and gravity data. Detailed studies of physical properties of flood basalt complexes based on well logs and core data from ODP Site 642, combined with various seismic data. The results were integrated in an evolutionary volcanic margin model. Research stays at Columbia University (Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory) in 1988 and 1989. |
1985 - 1987 | University of Utah, Salt Lake City, USA. Master of Science in Geophysics. Seismic interpretation and modelling of the Sevier Desert Basin, Utah, to study extensional detachment faulting. Courses in theoretical geophysics (seismology, inversion theory, digital signal processing) and geology (oceanography, geochemistry, sedimentology, structural geology). |
1981 - 1984 | University of Utah, Salt Lake City, USA; Strathclyde University, Scotland. Bachelor of Science in Geological Engineering / Norwegian siv.ing. from University of Utah. Emphasis on Applied Geophysics. First year courses in Applied Geology from Strathclyde University. |
