VBER at Geological Congress in Rio de Janeiro

Sverre Planke and Dougal Jerram, have been recently bringing highlights from the ‘Volcanic Margin Petroleum Prospectivity’ project to South America. They formed a key part of a session entitled 'Magmatism in Sedimentary Basins and Interactions with Petroleum Systems' at the 49th Geological Congress and VII Volcanic symposium, in Rio this August (20-24th)
Sverre Planke gave the introductory Key Note talk 'Seismic Imaging and Interpretation of Hydrocarbon Bearing Volcanic basins', and was also co-chairing the session with Isabela Carmo from Petrobras. Within the session, Dougal Jerram also presented 'Evaluating Petrophysical Properties of Volcano-Sedimentary Sequences: A Case Study in the Paraná-Etendeka Large Igneous Province'.

Also as part of the volcanic symposium, Dougal gave a short introduction and book signing session for the release of the recently translated Portuguese version of the best-selling book 'Introducing Volcanology'. The conjugate volcanic margins of the South Atlantic, and onshore basins in South America, form key areas in the new VMAPP2 continuation of the successful VMAPP1 project
